Kalimbah Standardbreds - The only dedicated Standardbred retrainer in NSW
A Day At The Races
Part of understanding why Standardbreds make such calm, reliable riding horses is acknowleding what they are bred for and trained for from birth  - Harness racing.
Although most people have seen footage of the races on TV the action behind the scenes is just as interesting. This page is to give you a better idea of what is involved for the horses, trainers and drivers in preparing for and participating in a race day.

If you have a local harness club or can attend a race day I would strongly reccommend it. Our local meetings, run by the Canberra Harness Club, are a great day out with spectators ranging in age from 0 - 90 and a very family friendly atmosphere.
These horses are amazing athletes and there is nothing like seeing them performing at their best on the track.

Canberra Harness Club, Sunday 18th May,2007
Perfect weather for a day out at the races, my boys love meeting up with their "race day friends" and we always have a betting compettion between ourselves ( I always lose so have to buy the hot chocolate!) There are 8 races with ususally 8 - 10 horses in each field. Canberra only uses a mobile starting barrier with the races between 1730-2170 metres long.
