About Kalimbah...
Kalimbah is a family run Standardbred training program where OTT (Off The Track) standardbreds are retrained for a secure future life under saddle. Kalimbah's aim is to take the fear factor out of getting an OTT Standie and to make sure the horses that go on to new homes will be a credit to the breed and to their new owners.

The fact that Kalimbah only trains Standardbreds has resulted in specialised knowledge of the breed and their particular needs when being retrained to saddle. A good understanding of the Harness Racing industry, the training and race day processes also gives valuable insight into the psychology and physical conditioning of the off the track Standardbred. Kalimbah's extensive handling and training experience shows in the great results achieved with the horses and the lives they go on to under saddle.
Kalimbah is located 50 minutes south of Canberra in the village of Bredbo with access to some beautiful trails along the Murrumbidgee River and the support of friends to make the training program possible.
Kalimbah is not a rescue organisation and recognises that the intensive nature of harness racing training means that many retiring race horses are not suitable for retraining as saddle horses. There are though a large number who do have great potential as riding horses as well as young horses who have only been trialled and not raced. We are very grateful to the trainers we deal with for giving us the opportunity to place those horses that will go on to new homes and a wonderful life after racing.
Visitors are always welcome to meet the Kalimbah Standardbred family and learn about the breed. There is also a lot of information on the site that you will find interesting.
Please take the time to look through the "Life After Racing" page to see the Kalimbah "graduates" in their new homes. You can use the contact page if you have any enquiries about our horses or about Stanadardbreds in general.
