Kalimbah Standardbreds - Dedicated to promoting the Standardbred Pleasure Horse

KALIMBAH STANDARDBREDS

The price of our horses do not represent their true value but rather our commitment to promoting the Standardbred breed and placing our horses in the best homes possible.

We prepare our horses for sale in 3 stages that should suit the experience of the rider and their expectation of the level of training.

Basic Assesment and Preparation
This option is designed to take the stress out of buying an OTT Standardbred. The horse receives a week of handling to get an idea of it's temperement and suitability for training to saddle. This includes ground work and lateral flexion work in the bridle. All our horses see our equine chiropractor and, if required, equine dentist as we feel these services are essential to making sure our horses have the best start for their new lives. The horse is drenched and sees our farrier who removes racing shoes, trims and assesses their feet.

Rider Suitability -  for an experienced horseperson with the knowlegde to start the horse under saddle themselves
Price -  $550

Working Trail Horse Training

Taking about 6-8 weeks, our aim is to produce a horse that is confident in a variety of enviroments and has good ridden skills. For the firdt two weeks groundwork, lunging, flexion, yielding, is established and then saddle and bridle are introduced. Once the horse can replicate all the ground work with the saddle on it has it's first ride in the arena.

They then have 3-4 rides in the arena and surrounding paddock to make sure they understand what is expected from them by their rider and that they are comfortable with the whole process. We put special emphisis on making sure they stand still for the rider to mount and dismount,  making sure they respond correctly to the bit and to the one rein stop.

The horse then undergoes a program of working trail rides designed to expose them to a variety of situations. These trails include our village streets ( kids, bikes, dogs, mowers, traffic) and river trails ( stock, water crossings, sand and gravel trails, hills and gullies). We also work at this stage to establish the horse's walk/trot transitions and introduce canter work. In the later stages of training some arena work is added to continue to develope the horse's ability to flex, yield and to ride softly in the bridle.

Rider training sessions covering ground work and trail skills for the new horse owner is also included in the final price.
Rider Suitability - for a confident rider looking for a reliable, willing horse to work with.
Price -  $1500-$2000

KALIMBAH / KISS Horsemanship Riding Horses
At the end of their trail horse training a number of horses are retained by Kalimbah to be used in our rider training sessions for the KISS Horsemanship program. These horses are handled by a range of students to teach ground work, ridden arena work and have extensive experience on the trail. We will occasionally offer these horses for sale with POA.
