Acknowledged as one of the most trainable horse breeds in the world, the Standardbred is now gaining a well deserved reputation as a reliable, confident riding horse suitable for a wide range of disciplines and riders.Located in Bredbo, NSW, Kalimbah Standardbreds has spent the past 6 years specialising in training Off The Track Standardbreds to saddle and is dedicated to promoting the breed in all areas of pleasure riding.
As well as starting and selling selected horses under saddle we now use our industry contacts to help trainers find new homes for their retired horses and horse lovers find a suitable Standardbred to retrain themselves.
Let us introduce you to the best kept secret of the horse world and show you the potential the Standardbred holds for a future under saddle.
Our focus on the Off The Track (OTT) Standardbred for the past 6 years has resulted in specialised knowledge of the breed and their particular needs when being retrained to saddle. Our work in the harness racing industry has also given us valuable insight into the psychology and physical conditioning of the OTT Standardbred. Kalimbah's extensive handling and training experience shows in the great results achieved with the horses and the lives they go on to under saddle.
Kalimbah has retrained over 70 Standardbreds to saddle in the past 6 years and our horses take part in a range of activities including trail riding, pony club, dressage, endurance and one of our horses, Kalimbah Shadow, is the first Standardbred to be accredited as a NSW Mounted Police Horse.
We are now proud to be working directly with the Harness Racing industry to provide education programs and a range of projects to promote "Standardbreds Unharnessed" and improve the post racing life of retired racing Standardbreds.
